#OurStoryIsOne Campaign Continues to Honour the 10 Women Executed in Shiraz

As we look back on June 18th, 1983, we remember the somber anniversary of the execution of ten Bahá’í women in Shiraz, Iran. It has been forty years since these brave women were tragically put to death for their unwavering commitment to their faith. Their legacy lives on, inspiring countless individuals around the world.

We are proud to share the news of a global campaign that the Bahá’í International Community has recently launched in honour of these remarkable women. The campaign, named #OurStoryIsOne, aims to commemorate the lives of the ten executed women. Through this initiative, we hope to shed light on their story and bring attention to the enduring struggle for gender equality that women from diverse faiths and backgrounds in Iran have faced over the course of many decades—a struggle that persists even today.

In a recent article published by Aurora Banner, Parisa Sabet, a local resident, shares her memories of that time from the perspective of a child observing her parents before, during, and after the executions. Her father’s cousin, Akhtar Sabet, was one of the 10 women who were executed. She recalls:

“You didn’t hear a voice. Nobody was talking,’ she said. ‘I don’t remember anyone crying, which was really strange. Now that I think about it, it’s mostly because this was something that everybody was expecting. They were trying to stay strong.'”

Baha’is of Aurora participate in Diaperama Event for Young Mothers

Last week, the Baha’is of Aurora were thrilled to have been invited to contribute to Diaperama, an incredible donation event hosted by Rose of Sharon. Rose of Sharon is a remarkable not-for-profit organization located in Newmarket, that provides essential support and educational services to prenatal and parenting young women across York Region.

The Baha’i Community recognizes the vital importance of supporting our fellow community members in need, especially during these challenging times. By contributing to Diaperama, we were able to help make a difference in the lives of young mothers and their children who are in need of critical resources.

We were delighted to be a part of such a worthy cause and to contribute to an organization that provides such essential support to the community. We look forward to continuing to support Rose of Sharon and other organizations that work tirelessly to make a positive impact in the world around us.

Aurora Food Pantry Drive Results Are In and…

The Food Drive facilitated by the Baha’i Community of Aurora was a great success!

The Community dropped off the items pictured below at the Aurora Food Pantry right before Thanksgiving to help out those in need.

“Oh, friends of God! If ye will trust in the Word of God and be strong; if ye will follow the precepts of Bahá’u’lláh to tend the sick, raise the fallen, care for the poor and needy, give shelter to the destitute, protect the oppressed, comfort the sorrowful and love the world of humanity with all your hearts, then I say unto you that erelong this meeting-place will see a wonderful harvest.”

Social Action Committee Helping to End Hunger with Community Support

At the beginning of autumn, the Social Action Committee (SAC) asked its community members to help end hunger in Aurora by donating fresh produce, vegetables, and perishable foods to be delivered to the local food bank. SAC members organized the collection of the over a dozen bags contributed by many donors (pictured below). The generosity of the community goes a long way in helping families facing difficulties during the pandemic.
